Movie Evening: Precious Ivie

Ivie is a mixed-race young woman with African roots. “Schoko“, as she‘s known to her friends, lives in Leipzig with her best friend Anne and feels completely integrated within German society. She splits her time between two jobs, one as a nursery teacher and the other in her ex-boyfriend Ingo’s tanning salon, while looking for steady employment as a teacher.

Suddenly her younger half-sister Naomi from Berlin shows up at the front door. Ivie had no idea she even existed. More confusing still is her news: Their estranged father Amadou, who neither of the sisters knew, has died in Africa. All of a sudden, the salient question is as to whether she will travel to Senegal with Naomi for the funeral. As the sisters from two very different cities grow closer, Ivie has the feeling she suddenly represents a culture she doesn‘t even know with a nickname she cannot accept anymore!
